When confronted with a challenge, my default is to build systems. So last year, as we hurried to hire 30+ people, I attempted to build a system that would quickly help us find, hire, and grow incredible people. As its worked surprisingly well, to date, I wanted to share a little bit about the program.
HHS stands for Humble, Hungry, Smart and is an anonymous peer-to-peer scoring system that grades each team member on humility
There are 18 questions, 6 for each category, scored 1 to 7, and they are added up to give an A, B, or C score. They cover topics like attitude, body language, readiness, urgency, listening, and more. If team members get an A, we find ways to celebrate; a B we make plans for improvement; if it’s a C we move them onto their next adventure.

In our upcoming Part III - Lānaʻi and Maui introductions. More deer stories to come.
