Some things are worth being tired for.
In Hawaiʻi there is a word for the people who know this. Maka luhi—tired eyes. To be a maka luhi is to have spent yourself on others, on community, on work worth doing. It is an honorific. It is, we think, one of the coolest things a person can be.
Fair warning: the Maka Luhi Invitation isnʻt a vacation. It is a call to meaningful work. A call to squeeze in, shoulder to shoulder, with the Team. To help harvest and butcher, to carry, cut, and somewhere in the blur of those three days, to cross over: from someone who eats this food to someone who has labored over it. A maka luhi.
The impact of a single weekend of hard work with the Team will be real and lasting. Every deer harvested moves Maui closer to balance—toward healthier ecosystems, food systems, and communities.
Come be tired with us. Over something well worth it.
