Slow Cooked

For 35 mins. at 400°

On HIGH for 2 hours, plus a full natural release of ~ an additional 45 minutes

Prep

Serving size: 1 - 3 lb bag can make at least 2 batches of 5 cups of Bone Broth.

Getting Started: Our how-to utilizes an Instant Pot for ease. Make sure to also have a colander or mesh strainer as well as freezer jars or storage containers if you plan to store for later use.

Preferred seasoning: Season with sea salt and whole peppercorns. Add in aromatics (garlic, onions, fresh herbs, bay leaves, lemongrass, ginger), savory vegetables (carrots, celery, leeks), and a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar—to help pull out important nutrients from the bones. Preferred Method

  • Preheat oven 400°
  • Place bones on a large baking tray. Consider roasting 1 large onion and one whole garlic bulb to add to broth.
  • Drizzle olive oil and then season lightly with salt. Roast for 35 minutes.
  • Add all ingredients to the pot (in our how-to we added celery, carrots, bay leaves, rosemary and thyme in this step). Pour a little water on the baking tray, scrape any flavorful bits into the pot, close the lid, set on pressure cook at high pressure for 2 hours plus full natural release—45 minutes.
  • Open the lid carefully. Remove bones and set aside. Strain broth through a colander or mesh and discard all solids. Set aside to cool down completely. Once cool, pour into jars and store in the fridge.

Extra Trips

  • Bones can be reused to make a second batch of bone broth. Place bones in the Instant Pot with 6 cups of water and set on high pressure for 1 hour with natural release. This will make about 5 cups. *This batch will be less concentrated than the first batch but will still have a gelatin consistency. It’s optional to add aromatics and vegetables for extra flavor.
  • No Instant Pot, no problem. Place all ingredients in a large pot or slow cooker. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover with lid, and cook for up to 24 hours. The longer it cooks the more flavorful and nutritious the broth will be.
